Wipha now the third Supertyphoon of the year

Wipha has become the third supertyphoon of the year as it barrels toward Taiwan, leaving them the third country in a month to feel the wrath of an intensifying Category Four or Five tropical cyclone. First, Dean in the Yucatan, then Felix in Nicaragua, now Wipha in Taiwan. Hopefully this is the last one.

Felix weakens slightly

Felix has weakened somewhat to 160 mph in the last advisory.

Felix now an extremely dangerous Category 5 hurricane

A special advisory was just issued upgrading Felix to a Category 5 with winds of 165 mph and pressure of 934 mb.

Winds up to 140 mph

Winds are now up to 140 mph. I wouldn’t be suprised if this were to become a Category Five later tonight or early tomorrow morning.

Down to 957 mb

Latest reconnaissance aircraft vortex information lists 957 mb as the minimal central pressure.

Felix reaches 125 mph

The 2 PM advisory has raised Felix to 125 mph.  Pressure down to 964 mb.
